Rio cuts 3500 contractor jobs from iron ore projects

Record revenues for Cat in quarter before the fall

CATERPILLAR has announced record revenues of $US12.981 billion ($A19.07 billion) for the third calendar quarter, 13% higher than the corresponding period in 2007. But in a sign of the times, profits for the quarter were down by $US59 million to $US868 million.
